There are millions of people all over the world who love the idea of travelling the world visiting places that are allegedly haunted places by spirits or ghosts to give their trips a more interesting feeling. Given this there are many people looking to cash in on this trend, lots of places claim to be haunted simply to increase their tourism appeal. However there are some locations which have huge reputations for being scary and haunted which makes them some of the most attractive holiday destinations for supernatural thrill seekers.
Monte Cristo Homestead, Australia
Believed to be the most haunted place in Australia due to the multitude of horrific events which have happened there over the course of its existence. A family names ‘The Crawleys’ lived there for many and experienced all kinds of horrific things such as a child being dropped down the stairs and a maid falling from a balcony. Since the left in the 1940s there have been more suspicious activities such as the murder of a caretaker, making this one of the most intriguing places in the Southern hemisphere.
This is by far one of the most surreal locations in the world. Also known as the ‘Suicide Forest’ due to the huge numbers of people who journey into the area every year to commit suicide. Given the massive amount of people who have died there by their own hand, many believe that the souls of the dead haunt the area and makes the suicide aspect of the forst even creepier.
The Tower of London, England
Whilst there are tourist attractions within the tower all year round there are many rumours of people seeing ghosts of ancient people who have been executed in the tower. Many claim to have seen the ghosts of two children running around the halls and even seen the ghost of Henry VIII’s second wife, Anne Boleyn. Given the volume of stories about seeing ghosts such as these, it’s not surprising that so many people journey to the tower to try and give themselves a scare.
Banff Spring Hotel, Canada
This hotel’s recent history is filled with chilling accounts of visitors who have seen ghosts resembling guests from the past who have perished. One of the most famous is the vision of a bride who fell down the stairs and broke her neck. There is also a story about room 873 in the hotel; that a family was murdered in there and even though the room itself is no bricked up they often lurk around the entrance.
There are a huge variety of stories which have come from this haunted vicarage over the past 135 year. One of the first was of washing being torn from the line by an unseen force. One of the most harrowing however is of a guest who awoke to find three elderly women staring at her before vanishing into thin air. This gives guests a real anticipation from staying there that they will get to experience something paranormal.
Island of the Dolls, Mexico
This island in the middle of Lake Teshuilo in Mexico is haunted by the spirit of a young girl who drowned in its waters. However in the 1950s a man moved there and when he did the ghost began to ask him to buy her dolls. Gradually buying more and more dolls for her he became increasingly nervous about the influence of the ghost on his life and one day was found drowned in the same spot as the young girl had died.
